I have, of late, become a sort of coffee table expert. Accessories, materials, colors, and uses, etc. - when people need help with anything related to a coffee table, I’m their girl. To help you, gentle reader and coffee table owner, I have now generated a list of seven things that will jazz up your coffee table and therefore your room.
Coffee Table Accessory Number 1 –
The tried and true accessory of a classic or contemporary coffee table. Like peanut butter and jelly, books/magazines/newspapers and the coffee table will forever go together. There is no separating the two because there is no two.
Nothing says success! quite like a Scrabble Board. Impress your guests. Play Scrabble with them. This works extremely well in conjunction with both #1 and #3.
Nicaraguan Rum, slow-aged since 1890; the bottles are highly ornate, and they look good on just about any coffee table. Actually, they look good just about anywhere.
I suggest an orchid. I suggest that in lieu of a vase you use an empty bottle of Flor De Cana. This adds a completely new dimension of sex appeal to your coffee table, and henceforth your living room, and thus, ultimately you.
Another useful little item, especially for the glass coffee tables, is the coaster. A must-have for obsessive compulsives and other people who can’t stand unsightly water rings and coffee stains.[1]
Make sure you get a wooden box with Spanish writing engraved on the side. It’s guaranteed to look super swanky on your coffee table. Also, you can hide things in it.[2]
Because you know what the first thing your guest will say when they plop themselves down on your sofa and notices Killer Clowns From Outer Space on your coffee table? “You like this movie?!?” They’ll say. And you’ll say, “Who doesn’t?”
My main advice: accessories should reflect who you really are. And if you really can’t think of anything that reflects your true character, just use any one of my seven items and your coffee table, and living room, will look stellar.[3]
[1] A major pet peeve of mine.
[2] But don’t. Super swanky looking boxes pretty much encourages nosiness.
[3] This is baseless and subjective.

Nice tips, although I don’t think staring at a bottle of Flor De Cana sitting on my coffee table all day would be a good idea for me. My lesser half may be tempted :P. Now the only question is which coffee table to accent. ::Cough:: Noguchi ::Couch::
Nice tips. I especially agree with the point about coasters- useful and decorative. Check out these sustainable coasters I recently picked up.

And fyi try upwords- like scrabble in 3D.
Coffee Table Accessory Number 6 – A Vintage Cigar Box
Not really encouraged if with cigars in it. Not a good impression to the kids

Very creative!
I would never think about the fact that family room items we use on a daily basis such as magazines, coasters, DVD’s etc. all can be thought of and arranged as part of the decor.
The theme of our family room and coffee table tends to be a little
disheveled. We’re talking about: crayons, coloring books, a Sponge Bob and Hannah Montana doll, etc.
A little noisy and unsophisticated?
Nice… and I’d have the Flor De Cana would disappear quickly! Do you have any older posts about voc’s and residential furniture? I’ve got experience working with commercial office materials, but want to learn more for my own home.
Thanks,
Chris
