How Do You Throw Away a Trashcan?

I don’t know.  Judging by how often this question ends up on internet “Do you wonder…” lists, it seems like nobody knows.  You can, however, recycle multiple materials into a recycling bin.  Ovetto is a complete recycling center with separate compartments for different materials.  The bin is made from the same material used in ropes and carpeting.  It’s small enough that it can go anywhere; consider making it part of your bedroom furniture collection.

Use a Platform Bed to Conserve Space

With tough times come tough sacrifices, right?  Not necessarily.  Consider purchasing a platform bed to get the most out of your space.  Platform beds come with the added benefits of style and comfort, so you’re not losing anything by switching to one.  Their distance off of the ground makes it very easy to store loose items under platform beds.  Books, magazines, shoes, and even a guitar can fit right under the bed.

This House Will Either Make You Live Longer or Cause Seizures

Hopefully the former, as that’s its stated goal.  The Bioscleave House is intended to improve quality of life and thus lengthen it by providing engaging and mood enhancing visuals.  The whole place looks like a vibrant funhouse with bright colors and explorable design features.  The uneven concrete floor takes a little bit away from the kid-friendliness, but the home has been able to instill a sense of curiosity and wonder.   Its designers are not only against the idea of aging and death, but think its unlawful.

We hear the word sustainable a lot these days, but how about sustainable life through a home that makes you feel like a kid in a, well, crazy-wacky-trippy funhouse?

The Benefit of Dark Bedroom Furniture

bedroom furniture

When it comes to bedroom furniture, there is a wide spectrum of style and color from which to choose. Each kind of furniture carries its own look and attitude, so it is important to decide on something that reflects who you are. With so many options, it shouldn’t be a problem to find fitting bedroom furniture. You must be able to distinguish between the types, though, and the visual messages they carry. The difference between light and dark bedroom furniture is one of the most obvious and readily apparent.

Dark bedroom furniture gives off an air of formality, while lighter furniture tends to project a more unrestricted and free-spirited state of mind. Neither one of these is necessarily better than the other. Rather, these are the two extremes of bedroom furniture design that you as a consumer can consider. Darker furniture also tends to be more formal. Pieces have more ornaments and a higher level of detail than light ones. Dark bedroom furniture is perfect for a home with a more modern or urban look to it. Lighter furniture is unfinished sometimes, so it tends to work better in more rustic or traditional environments. Light furniture is also great for rooms flooded with daylight.

Dark bedroom furniture tends to send a more powerful message than light furniture. It makes its presence known and does not have the subdued sense of modesty of its light counterparts. For the young professional, for example, dark bedroom furniture is a great way to demonstrate a serious and ambitious take on life. There is assertiveness to dark furniture that commands attention.

Your Bedroom Furniture & Feng Shui

Feng Shui & Bedroom Furniture

It is pretty simple to apply the principles of feng shui to your bedroom furniture. While feng shui is an ancient practice and requires knowledge and skill to master, you can rearrange some items on your own to achieve the basic idea. In modern times, feng shui has deviated somewhat from its origins. While it was originally concerned with locating ideal places for homes and agriculture, it is now mainly utilized to optimize the placement of furniture. This can be done anywhere throughout the home, but the bedroom is where most people begin. Here are some of the basic principles for feng shui-ing your bedroom furniture.

The first step is to understand the concept of feng shui. By utilizing laws from the earth and the universe, feng shui is believed to bring about positive energy. This is a very simplistic interpretation, but to many westerners this is far as their understanding goes. When applied to bedroom furniture, there is the belief that if you arrange your furniture in a certain way, then you can maximize the positive energy flowing throughout the room. There is no set method for feng shui, as many practitioners have different styles and rules they follow.

It is also possible to take the common perception of feng shui and apply it to your bedroom furniture. Many people think that feng shui is as simple as arranging your furniture in a balanced and symmetrical way. You can easily do this on your own without a feng shui practitioner. Try to get an idea of the shape and direction of your bedroom. Drawing it to scale on paper may help. Then, arrange your furniture to correspond to the angles and lengths of the walls. While it is debatable that this will have an effect on the energy in your room or getting good fortune through Feng Shui, you will be able to notice the added symmetry and visual balance.

Selecting Bedroom Furniture Pieces

SOHO bedroom furniture set

There are really no limits when it comes to selecting and placing bedroom furniture. Many people stick to the standards like beds and dressers because they don’t realize that many pieces of furniture fit well in a bedroom. It is understandable to be hesitant to try, because the hassle and expense of adding new items to your room may seem to outweigh any benefit. With a little planning and foresight, though, you can successfully integrate furniture from other parts of your home into your bedroom. Which pieces you choose depends on your needs and the layout of your room. Here are some tips for adding furniture.

Determine what your bedroom is lacking. This is important as it will give you a starting point. Try to figure out what you feel will provide the most functionality. Adding furniture to a bedroom to complete an aesthetic is a reasonable thing to do, but try to make functionality a priority. Integrating bedroom furniture with that of another room is more effective if the items serve a purpose aside from appearance. A recliner or love seat from a living room, for example, could be used to great effect in a bedroom. The same goes for a coffee table.

You can take the eclectic approach as well. Furniture that seems strictly reserved for other rooms can be moved into the bedroom. A few dining chairs, for example, can provide additional seating in a bedroom as well as a place to drape loose clothing.

Bedroom Furniture for Book Enthusiasts

reading in bedroom furniture

If you love to read, take comfort in the fact that there is bedroom furniture suited to your hobby.  Reading is a great activity because it can be done virtually anywhere.  It enriches you without being a burden.  In a sense, you don’t have to go out of your way to read.  For this reason, many people love to read in the bedroom.  Having furniture that complements this is great.  There are a few things to consider when looking at bedroom furniture with reading in mind.  You can really maximize the experience and get the most out of your books with some brief and simple planning.

First off, decide where in your bedroom you want to read.  It is important to remember that beds are not the only available furniture.  A chaise lounge or bench could be a great alternative.  These can be easily positioned anywhere in a bedroom.  If there is a window with a great view you enjoy, for example, you can place a lounge right under it.  A bed is still a great place for reading, though, especially if you like to read just before you go to sleep.  Consider a bed with a frame that you can lean against.  As far as sitting or reclining furniture goes, you have many options.

The other type of bedroom furniture great for readers is that of the storage variety.  Nightstands are probably the single best piece of bedroom furniture book fans.  Their proximity to the bed and flat surface make it exceptionally easy to store whatever you are reading within arm’s reach.  This works very well for people who read right before falling asleep.  As you doze off, you can simply slide in a bookmark and set the book on the nightstand.

This Coffee Table Makes a Fine Liquor Table

You can do more with a coffee table like this than serve coffee.  How about hidden storage perfect for glasses and bottles?  While this table doesn’t totally eliminate the need for a liquor cabinet, it works perfectly for a quick pick me up after a hard day at the office.  After you’re finished, tuck it all away into the sliding drawer and effectively hide your vice from friends and loved ones.
